Default Paging josh99ta

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra ext cab and for some reason I can't seem to get any decent bass out of it. This is my current setup. I have a Clarion head unit with 4V preamp outputs, 2 JL10w0 in a sealed .75 cf/chamber box and MB Quart for mids and highs. Everything is running off an Orion XTR 800.4. I am using 2 channels to run mids and highs and the other half of the amp is used for bass(400w mono@4ohms). The low pass crossover is set right @ 60hrtz. Oh... the current box I have right now is a downfiring box which goes under the rear seat. I have tried the front firing box that goes under the rear seat, but had better results the down firing. I am not an expert in car audio but i have installed over 10 systems in friend's and preveous vehicles and all with good results. Don't get me wrong, my trucks sounds nice and clean. It is just the bass is not to my expectations. I don't have that low end extention. You know the kind of bass that makes your neighbor's windows rattle. I understand they are only 10 and the w0, but I have heard this babies roar in single bab trucks and other vehicles with less power than what I have. Any feasable solutions or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I rarely visit this part of LS1Tech, but guess I looked at a good time. LoL, well as far as your predicament, if you've installed and/or heard 10W0s in other installs with equal or less power and they sound just as good, my only thoughts would be to either the box or amp. You may also want to check the phase on your speakers. Make sure you have everything hooked up in phase and that both speakers are moving in the same direction. If they are out of phase the bass may sound diffused and if they are out of phase with one another they will cancel each other out and you'll barely get any bass at all. Past that just make sure you box is sealed up well, that your amplifier gains/levels are set correctly, and that everything is in proper working order. Past that it's troubleshooting time so try to get ahold of another 10W0 or two, or even different subs, and hook them up in your truck to see if the problem still exists. If it does then your equipment may be faulty and then it's time to replace it or change it. Hope that helps some. If you get a chance to do some trouble shooting let me know the results. You can reply back here but a much quicker way to get in touch with me is by email at sqtransam@aol.com Just put something about LS1Tech in the title so I don't delete it with the rest of the junk. Hope I was of some help. Later man.

Actually I heard these same woofer with less power and sound better, but they were not on an ext cab. These that I heard were on a single cab and were hitting so much lower than mine. I did I did check so see if they are are out of phase by reversing the polarity on one of the woofer and it sounded like crap. I am convinced this is not why they are not hitting low. According to JL they woofer work on .5-1 cf. I am using .75 for each on mine. I am beggining to think its just the acoustics of my truck to get any decent low and hard hitting bass. And as far as trying other woffers I did try some PPI's and had very similar results. thanks for you help.

Well truck by nature are harder to get lower bass out of that larger cars, but usually hit the high stuff louder. What size box were those two W0s in in the other install and you said they are in .75 cubes now. Box can make a world of difference. Where they seperated or in the same airspace in the other install and are they together or seperated now? What about the direction they were firing in both installs? Gimme the details Makes it easier to help you out

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I hardly come this way. The other 10w0 I heard had .75cf/chamber(seperated). Both were in a down firirng box. I have been considering going with a single 10L7 in a 1.0fc sealed down firing enclosure. Do think I have enough power to make this baby roar? Or better yet, do you think this setup will sound louder and deeper than my current set up? I have 400w mono coming from 2 bridged channels of an Orion XTR800.4. Thaiks in advance.

So basically very similar setups, yet yours in the only one with sub-par performance? I'd say that it was in the install or box then. Maybe air leaks, maybe some flexing, could be anything small. I'd try constructing another box and redoing everything before you went out and sold everything you had to get an L7. They are very nice subs that bump pretty good, but there are other subs I'd look to before an L7. I could recommend a single 10 or 12 that would almost certainly please you. With 400w you have a decent amount of options, enough to get some good output. I'd look towards these subs. . .

More mainstream:
JL Audio W3, Kicker L7, Kicker Comp

Less known, but better IMO (get more for your money):
Elemental Designs E10K or E12K ( www.edesignaudio.com ), Adire Audio Shiva 12 ( www.adireaudio.com )
