Head unit error message: please help! Hey guys,
I have a friend that needs help with his stereo. It's a 96 Lumina but I figure the head units might cross. Here's his post to a local newsgroup:
I have a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina with a factory CD player, and the CD part of that has recently conked out and started giving "ERR" messages on any CD. It used to be that I could stick a piece of paper in there and it would work for a few weeks, but now that doesn't even work. The laser is clean (low-lint q-tip and rubbing alcohol) and it still doesn't help.
Any thoughts fellas?

Re: Head unit error message: please help! maybe the laser could be going out,,, if everything is clean inside of it, you could take it to a shop to have it fixed, but as much as that may be, just replace it with a better one, the factory cd player is not too good compared to an aftermarket one, your signal to noise ratio would be higher and the amounts of watts per channel,,,, i really wouldn't waist any money on cleaning products and just replace it, it just sounds like the laser is going out,, it is 6-7 years old, since its a 1996
