Default Holes in sub surround, is this ok?

a friend of mine was putting his grilles on his subs, and he said he poked one of the screws through the surround. it is about as big as if you poked the lead of a pencil through it. is this going to present a problem or not? i told him that it wouldn't and he could just put a little dab of silicone on it. if he doesnt put the silicone on it, is it going to affect the sound, or is the hole gonna get bigger? thanks for the help. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

It'll eventually tear over time. Get a replacement surround. They're easy to replace.

If you don't have the money to replace it, use a little silicone sealant from the underside of the surround to close and seal the hole, then dab an equivalent amount on the opposite side of the surround to balance the cone.
