I'd like to know too... mine come in a week. I need to do a search to find which wire to tap into for the dash lights (I think it was brown in my '84)... Mostly I'm concerned with the best way to mount an AutoMeter 2-pod to my pillar.

I installed a single mechanical guage in my car a few weeks ago, and it was a fun project. The a-pillar came off pretty easy, and mounting the pod to the pillar was a simple task. I held the pod in place using duct tape, and was able to drill the holes for the mounting tabs with pod on the pillar.

Wiring the guage lights to the IP Dimmer switch was a little tricky. Thanks to the good folks on this message board I was able to sort things out. The wire connector on back of the switch has 4 wires. You can use a 12-volt test light to check each wire by unlocking the tabs on the connector, and testing each individual circuit. On my 2001 Z-28 it was the green wire. I tapped into this wire using a 3M quick coonector. Now my new guage light is hooked up with the rest of the instrument lights.

The only thing I don't like is the light in the guage. It has a warm yellow tint to it, and is not cool white in appearance. The guage kit did come with a red, and a green lightbulb cover to change the appearance of the light. I would have prefered a blue cover, and will probabily be getting one soon.

Hope this helps, good luck on your project.

Zig, you can get blue bulb covers from Jegs... And thanks for the wire info

Apachedrill, the A/F gauge is pretty simple. Not sure about the Cobalt or Lunar gauges, but the old Phantom gauge I had was simply red to 12V, black to groung, and the purple wire went to the O2 sensor. The trick it to find out which wire that is that goes to the ECM... or which of the 3 wires it is on the O2 sensor (3-wire types). The directions should say.

Hey thanks, everyone has been a great help. Just for future reference, when installing a POD or any of the Gauges. If you go to www.autometer.com,
there is a breakdown of how to's and special hints for installs and wiring of the gauges by vehicle. I was inpressed. I will be doing this project over the weekand. I will let you know how it goes .
