They sell an adapter that will plug into the back of 99+ Fbody radios with CD changer control. It will provide you with a set of RCA input jacks. Obviously, you won't be able to run the CD changer with this piece.

The adapter is called a gm9-aux. I got one, but it didn't work on my '99 Camaro Monsoon. Some years from Blazers and S10s do work. I have a headunit from an '01 Blazer that definitely works and is 100% compatible with our cars. From the front it looks exactly the same as your original unit.

The change was made late in the 99 model year and there's no way to tell the difference between an early and a late model without opening it up and looking inside. It's safer to just go with a 2000 or newer CD head unit (or any year of cassette head unit).
With your 02 you will be able to use the GM9-AUX for auxiliary input and still retain the factory CD changer if you have one. 01 and 02 models were capable of controlling more than one external device (99-00 models didn't have that feature). The GM9-AUX has a changer pass-thru port so you can leave the change connected and still add an auxiliary source like satellite radio or an MP3 player.
