Replace stock head unit or not? mp3 I need to know if there were any years of the f body that they had a stock monsoon that would play mp3s on cds. Because I am really needing to play all my cds and they are in mp3 form. I don't know if I wanna throw a aftermarket cd player in there because I kinda don't want my sterring wheel buttons to be non active. I dont know if it will look better than the stock looks.
There is a $35-50 module that will allow you to use your steering wheel controls so long as your aftermarket radio has a remote sensor. There are also methods to flush mount an aftermarket head unit it can look very nice in place.
Another solution would be a trunk mounted MP3 capable changer, portable, or MP3 player, running through the AUX input of a compatible factory deck. (though avoid FM modulated or NEO changer designs, they blow).
If you can afford it just get a basic aftermarket deck and be done with it. A lower priced model is not a huge target for theft and can look perfectly clean in the dash.

I was surprised the other day walking through the automotive section in Walmart when I saw an $80 deck with a USB port, SD slot, and CD MP3 capability. I personally wouldn't buy a deck that inexpensive but I couldn't believe the features for the price. Wish my awkward shaped GM unit had more features.
Since the monsoon HU does not play mp3 files and does not have an AUX input, you are very limited in your choices. The easiest thing to do is just get a new head unit that will play mp3 files. I think there are some that aren't much over $100. You could always convert you mp3s to regular audio files then burn them on cds, but you wont fit as many songs on every cd.
