Default MA audio amps?

Hey all,

Well it's time for me to replace my cheap Jensen 2 channel amp that is currently powering my frontstage (CDT CL-61A components).

I came across a good deal on an MA Audio M589i Amp (150W x 2 @ 4ohms).

I've seen MA audio advertised a lot but I've never actually listened to one.

Are they decent amps? Any other suggestions for 150W x 2 @ 4ohms for $150 or less?

Thanks all,

Russell

Try ebay for an older Rockford black and grind style amp. Something like a 500a2. These put out about 600w continous and hit very hard and fast. They are excellent sound quality amps as well and put out 150x2 at 4 ohms.

Here's one:

These were about $500 new. I have 3 of the 225.2's (which is the same size as the 500a2, but an older numbering system). Birthsheet says 600 something continous at 14 volts.

One amp is running a set of Focal 6.5's and tweets and the SQ is amazing.

I don't think your going to find a decent new amp for that price range.

Jason,

Thanks for the link and the heads up! I actually came across a good deal on a used Crossfire CFA-602 for $100 from the owner of fbodyaudio.com. It's a BIG amp but hopefully I can shoehorn it onto my amprack

Thanks again,

Russell

MA Audio is not too good. They're not Pyramid bad, but not much better. They used to be called Mobile Authority and had a pretty bad rep.

Crossfire is good stuff, you'll be happy with that I think.

The Crossfire is probably an OK amp. Not something you would put in a competition car for max sound quality, but probably good enough for most folks. Sounds like you got a good deal as well.
