Need help wiring sail speaker
Thanks for the help, it's been about 10 years since I've done car audio and I'm a little rusty. The car is a 01 TA if it matters.
Hopefully you bought high sensitivity (efficient) speakers because you're replacing 2-ohm with 4-ohm. If the speakers are efficient enough you won't really notice the reduction in volume caused by the increased impedance. Also, remember that the signal to the sail panels carries low frequencies only - so if you bought coax speakers the tweeters won't do anything.
I got a set of Pioneer TS-G1641R 6-1/2", they have a sensitivity of 91 db and they have a max power capability of 30W RMS, so hopefully they will be decent. They were only $49 for the par, so the price was right
These things suck. Granted they sound better then a blown speaker, they don't even come close to producing the bass of the stock Delco speakers. While I was swapping speakers, I was worried these pioneers weren't going to be the best because the magnet of the stock Delco's weighed about twice as much. I know that the pioneers don't seal as well into the body as the Delco's but I don't know how much difference it will make if I make up some gaskets. At this point, I think I'm going to buy another set of Delcos and take the Pioneers out because I have no bass. I think I'll put some bass blockers on the Delcos to help prevent them getting blown as easily. So that's it, you get what you pay for
Put dacron (pillow stuffing) behind them and it should help a little. Dacron is used in speaker building to "trick" the driver into thinking it's in a bigger enclosure, which usually helps extend bass response.
I wouldn't buy Delcos, you can get better aftermarket, though I have yet to have anyone tell me what kind of clearance we have to play with back there so I can't recommend a driver 'til I find that out.
