mine is mounted in the center of the windshield (both left and right, and up and down). it does the job, and i've never been pulled over because of "obstruction of vision."
I have the same radar detector and I have it mounted right under the mirror and have it hard-wired as well. Maybe it's because I live in NY and seldom drive too far away, but I have almost never cnofronted a LIDAR system and when you are hit by one of those, its too late. Your only chance is that your system receives scattered signals bounced off of another car. Accoording to the cobra systems literature anyway. As for the Kband, I hit those all the time and my unit picks it up in plenty of time.

I run another radar facing the rear of the car under the chmsl. This way I am covered. Also use double sided tape again.
