Default Steering Wheel Controls not workin

The weirdest thing happened with the steering wheel controls yesterday. I have a Pioneer HU and I have the PAC thing installed. The volume button on the steering wheel stopped working. BUT everything else is working fine. It seems kind of weird that only the volume would stop working and not anything else. Hopin someone could give me some input.

No, all the steering wheel controls run off a single fuse. If the fuse had blown, none of the controls would work.

same thing happened to my PAC SWI-X.....it would work on and off and it was almost always the volume buttons that had the problem. I looked into it and I am pretty sure it was a bad connection of the main "trigger" wire. I had used one of those cheesy wire tap things and decided to take it off and solder it instead and that cleared up the issue. I have since stepped up to the Pioneer version of the PAC seeing I upgraded head units. I would give that a try though, make sure your wire connections are secure and never use those stupid clip on wire taps.....they're useless!

the PAC SWI-X (or similar product) lets you use the steering wheel controls to control your aftermarket stereo....

(2) things to check:

(a) make sure you don't have a blockage between the reader HU/sending unit PAC.
Mine is located in console but in reverse is obstructed

(b) Any light directly(i.e. sunlight) hitting the HU reading sensor will cause the PAC NOT TO WORK. (no reading)

Most likely a crimped wire or the interface unit has gone Ka-Ka

I had a similar prob recently...PAC installed with a Pioneer HU.

All buttons worked fine for 1 year and then the vol up button stopped working consistently. The vol down button also stopped working a couple times. All other buttons worked perfect.

I took the HU out and examined the wires and all conections were fine. I was suspecting heat causing the prob since the car was sitting outside in the sun everytime it failed.

I moved the PAC to a different spot behind the dash and we'll see.

I also suspect the blue/green wire connection as I used the cheap tap connection.

I will definitely be changing that if it acts up again.

Check the ground on the PAC device, if it's intermittent funny things will happen.
