Default Are factory monsoon speakers garbage

I have a 99 firebird and whenever i have my radio turned and the bass all the way up it sounds really bad. The weird thing is it happens even when I am not blasting the speakers. I am thinking about getting upgraded factory speaker to help. They are saying that the factory speakers in our cars could not handle the 500 watts are cars can put out. click the link below for the new factory speakers.

this is what they say about the speakers

2) Left and right New Factory OEM 6” Front Door speakers for 1997-2002 Pontiac Firebird, formula and Trans AM with the Monsoon stereo system. These speakers commonly fail, as the original design could not handle the 500 watts of power the Monsoon system put out; this new design has more handling power and will not blow out easily like the original

These speakers are designed to be used with the GM Stereo system option codes of W54, W55, and W56 if you look at the part number stamped on the magnet of you old speaker it will either have part # 9361889 or 9361789 if these numbers match you know that this is the right speaker.

First of all, the Monsoon system never put out 500 watts in GM's wildest dreams. That was a peak rating at something like 10% THD. Second, those look like new OEM speakers - the same ones that are about $35 each anywhere else. Although the factory speakers are fairly cheap, it's the distortion from the head unit that kills them. Even a better quality speaker will eventually blow if you use the factory stereo at high volume.

Ok, I've always tried to stay positive about the Monsoon system as I'm a real audio snob and most factory systems sound worse. I used to think the Monsoon system was Ok for a factory system. I recently bought a Volvo as my daily driver and now I can say that the Monsoon system BLOWS!! It Blows on every level, HU, Amp and speakers. There is not one redeeming quaility of the Monsoon system except that the majority of other AMERICAN CAR factory systems sound as bad or worse.

Whew, now I feel better. My Monsoon is gone (I can't believe someone actually bought it!) and I have moved on to the land of Alpine 9857 HU, JL subs and amps and Focal 165 CV1's.

You can find better speakers for your aduio system...But i'd have to say that the monsoon speakers in the f-bodies are fairly decent. That dissortion sound you hear is prolly the plastics raddling, it makes them sound like ****. I'm not sayin the speakers are the best for factory, but dont waste your money unless your tryinna pull a lot more high freq. outta the speakers...good luck
