Default Upgrade the alternator?

What is the stock alternator good up to? I ask because I think I am going to be replacing my monsoon system with an Amp that would power the 4 6.5s and a sub as well. I just don't want to overwork my stock alternator and have myself stranded with no power in the future.

Thanks

You want to install an amp to power the stock speakers plus a sub? Why not just add a sub and an amp for it and leave the stock speakers powered by the stock amp? That would be a lot easier and you wouldn't have to worry about your alternator unless you get some monstrous amp and sub combination.

well I wanted to upgrade my 6.5s while I was at it. So the amp would be powering the 4 new speakers and the sub as well.

About how many watts could I push before I would need to upgrade?

Listen to White, he knows what he's talking about. I concur, upgrade the speakers if you want, but leave the factory amp. It's not THAT bad. And then you can get a better quality amp and sub that are more tuned for each other, instead of a 6 channel amp, which will be silly.

they dont make 6.5 or 6.75 inch subs anymore for our sail panels, and those are the ones i have blown.

plus my system is stock. i have a new battery and my alternator still does not put out enough power to power up everything. at a stop light my alternator is draining the battery and the battery can not keep up with the demand of my sub/amp and all the lights with the blower motor running (does not matter if it is a/c or heat)

what are you talking about they dont make 6.5s any more?

if your system is stock and your having charging problems I would say that you have other problems such as your alt or battery fixing to go out.

It is not unusual for any stock alternator to be unable to keep up with the load at idle with air conditioning, lights, brake lights, turn signals, and all the other electrical systems. They're just not designed to put out that much at idle. But it's not a problem as long as it can handle the load in normal driving. If you're worried, spend about $20 at your local auto shop to have the alternator tested.
