air horn wiring

air horn wiring a friend got an air horn for his silverado. but we're having a problem wiring it. how can he wire it, and still beable to use the steering wheel controls? the directions aren't all that clear.

The compressor will have two terminals - one goes straight to ground, the other is the power activated by the horn switch. You should get a standard 30-amp relay from an auto parts store so that you don't run too much power through the horn switch. Connect terminal 30 of the relay to battery power with an inline fused wire. Connect terminal 87 on the relay to the power terminal on the compressor. Connect terminal 86 to the factory horn power wire near the horn. The horn will have a ground wire (usually black) and a power wire (usually green) - don't just assume those colors, check them with a test light or multimeter. Finally connect terminal 85 of the relay to ground.
This configuration adds the airhorn to the factory setup rather than replacing it. That way you still have horns if the airhorns fail to work for some reason. Also, air horn compressors take a moment to spool up so there's a slight delay when you first hit the horn button. That's handy when you just want a short "toot" to get the guy in front of you to move on a green light without giving him a full blast of the airhorn.
