Default Rockford batteries by Exide

Has anyone had any experience with Exide's battery that Rockford markets? I have a buddy who works in an audio shop and he recommended them over optimas, plus I can get it at cost.

Ok I just found out today that Rockford no longer endorses these batteries and they are the Exide Orbital 34XCD's. I've heard from a few people that these are great batteries, any experiences with them versus optimas?

A battery is a battery, really. Optimas are nice because they're dry-cell and thus can safely be put wet-cell batteries can't, but I've honestly never seen any sort of real-life difference in an Optima and a normal battery. My last system, that was pushing 2500w RMS, was on an Everlast battery from Wal Mart, and never had a problem. As long as the WCAs and CCAs are adequate (I think the battery I had was 900CCA and 600WCA), you should be fine, especially if you don't have a major system.

A lot of those "car audio" batteries companies make work fine for multiple-battery setups on competition cars, but do not to well at all when it comes to using them as a starting/main battery.

It has been a while since I have had any experience with the Exide Orbital. I used to sell them about 5-6 years ago. They were supposed to be every bit as good/better than the Optima. The problems I did see happened right away. A few of the batteries failed, usually in the first few weeks. We would always warranty them, and never had a repeat failure. I think it might have just been a bad lot. Other than a few of those in the begining I received no complaints, although I never had the chance to compare them back to back with any of the Optimas.

Personally, unless you need a dry/gel cell due to mounting locations or abuse, I don't see the need to spend any extra money.
