I have an Alpine headunit from my old vert. I'm thinking of putting it in the new SS with some new front door speakers. Are there any speaker wires that go to the door in a camaro that do not go through the factory AMP? It seems that the HU power would be cleaner than the monsoon. I am going to do an amp later but the roll bar makes that a lenghty install. Right now I just need to get the blown door speaker addressed!

I have read through countless stereo threads but honestly am more confused then when I started.....

No, all the speakers in a Camaro are powered by the amp. However, in your case that's not necessarily a bad thing. The amp in a Monsoon system is actually pretty good - it's the head unit and speakers that cause most of the problems. The HU distorts and clips at a relatively low volume setting which is a major cause of the speakers blowing. If you just install your Alpine head unit (with a wiring kit) and continue to use the factory amp, you will have an immediate improvement in sound quality and your speakers will last longer. Not to mention it will be easier, cheaper, and you can always upgrade to a different amp (with rewiring) later.

So in this case would the infinity 62.7i fit the bill perfectly? When I purchase and amp I'm sure it will be 2 ohm stable. The Alpine unit I have is complete with wiring harness and install kit. I know on the TA there are 4 wires per door have not replaced camaro's speakers.

Is there only the two wires for the speakers on the camaro door.

Thanks for the insight and advice I will take you up on it. Honestly if the Monsoon amp can give "decent" quality which stock it almost does I'll just use it. Add some better sail speakers and a 10 inch sub and call it a day. Stereo is not my first priority in a car that rarely gets driven.

Both the Camaro and Firebird have component speakers in the doors but they are mounted differently. Firebirds have the tweeters mounted separate from the mids, Camaros have the tweeters mounted coaxially on the mids. You have four wires in both cases.

The nice thing about the Infinities is that they are fairly easy to convert from coax to component. You can cut the leads going to the tweeters on the back of the speakers and then connect them to the factory tweeter wires.
