Default component speakers or coaxial speakers

I am having trouble deciding what speakers to get for the rear passenger sail speaker. I orginally bought Alpine type S coaxial speakers from best buy but i took them back. I was told that if i hooked up coaxial speakers to the sails then i would only get highs or lows out of them. With the component speakers I would have to find I would get both highs and lows. The only problem is I would have to find somewhere to mount the tweeters. I have noticed that component speakers are very pricy compared to coaxial. What should I do? What speakers would give me good bass?

here were the speakers I orginally bought

thanks

I don't know who told you that coax speakers would work differently from components but don't ask them for advice again.

If you're using the original Monsoon amp you will only get bass from the sail panel connections (regardless of coax or components) because the amp filters the signal. If you don't have a Monsoon system then you will get full range signal at the sail panels (again, regardless of coax or components).

With the Monsoon you can get full range signal if you don't mind giving up the hatch speakers. Disconnect the hatch speakers and run the wires from the component mids mounted there forward to the sail panels.

that would be Best Buy that told me that. I think that it is now safe for me to say Best Buy doesnt their *** from a hole in the ground.

thanks, but im curious how hard would that be to do with my dad and myself. What would be a rough estimate it i had a sound shop near me do that work?

Do what? Disconnect the hatch speakers to power the sail panel speakers? That's easy - you could do it yourself in an afternoon or less. The 6.5" replacement speakers will bolt right in to the stock sail panel locations (although you might have to angle the screws a little depending on the speakers). The plastic trim in the hatch area pops off for access to the speakers so you just unplug them, splice in some additional wire to reach the sail panels, fish the wires forward to the new speakers, connect them, and put it all back together.

I put those exact speakers in my sail panel the other day, It took me 4x longer to find the right size socket head for the bolts than it did to switch them out.

Right now mine are running through the amp since I don't' have my 4-channel amp yet, and yeah they only give out bass, I would definitely recommend bypassing the amp, which is explained here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...97#post6130097

(btw: it's 9/32 head )

(Actually, it's 7mm)

Bypassing the amp is more work than necessary if the only thing you want is full-range signal at the sail panels - just use the hatch speaker leads. There are good reasons to bypass the Monsoon amp in some situations but not for just replacing the subs.

Every GM owner should have fifteen 7mm sockets. It's gotten to the point that I just keep them in the handles of my bit-screwdrivers.

Seriously between phillips and 7mm bolts - that's like 95% of GM interiors fasteners.

Oh and on topic I wouldn't personally put components in the back. Put the best drivers you can stand buying up front, but in the back, voice-matched co-axials are fine imho.
