Default Trying to completely gut the monsoon grrr...

I was reading stickies and im reallly new to car audio, its all french to me lol sorry... my really good friend used to work at a audio shop so im pretty much good... im not paying a red penny for installation... we figure we'll make a day out of it and just bang it out in his garage... anyway...

i already purchased a Pionar 480 H/U
2 JL Audio components
and i purchased the 4 channel amp to power them...

my question is... in order to switch from the monsoon stuff to just run the stuff i purchased.. i would i need some adapter or just be able to gut the whole thing... i don't even know where our amp is located... i wanna get everything out... is this a hard process or is there an easier route to take?... you can speak "car audio" because i can just show my friend this thread and he'll probably understand all of it... the stickies are a little hard for me to comprehend and if somebody would like to take the time to spell it out for me id really appreciate it..

thx -mikey

...spell out the stickies? I just glanced through them, didnt realize how long they both were.. ...how about show them to your friend?

Our amp is located in front of the spare (front being towards the front of the vehicle) on back of the sheet metal there

Gutting is easy - get rid of all your speakers, lose the HU - and run everything off your new HU, running new wires..etc.. no need to take out the factory amp...leave it in case you want it for whatever reason...

What are you going to be doing for bass though? The "subs" in the rear sails provide most of that for you right now...

If you're replacing the entire system, you should use all new wiring. In which case, you should not need any special adaptors. Assuming you picked out compatible stuff.

The Monsoon amplifier is located on the passenger-side rear quarter-panel. Look behind and forward of the spare tire for a black box. It's not in the way, so you could just leave it there and not worry about it. Your new amplifier would never likely fit there.

edit: Except for the GM antenna adaptor and a mounting bracket for the head unit.

While GM calls the sail speakers "subwoofers", they are not. A good set of components should give just as much bass as stock system. And he can always add a subwoofer and amp to his system later.

thx guys, yea i do plan to add a 10" inch subwoofer later on for bass... im looking foward to getting everything in... i think we are just going to run all new wiring with the new H/U.. makes alot more sense... i tried to show him the stickies but the monsoon system is really rare... he didn't really understand it... looks like we're pretty solid about whats going on... thx alot for your help!

yes......that's why I as well put subs in "quotes" -- and why I said it gives most of his bass "right now"......most people just wouldn't be happy with the components bass so I just wanted to make sure he knew there wouldn't be better bass, but as you said...more or less the same...until the 10".
