Default gauges spiking

I keep having this problem when I start my car. The tach and spedo spike and the trip odo goes to zero. I posted about this a couple of months ago and someone suggested checking for a ground. How do I do this and what else can I do? Any body have this problem? Is it my gauge cluster going bad? The first time it did it was on a road trip to the grand canyon and it was about 30 degrees. Now it does it about every start up, unless the car is hot.
