Default Monsoon Amp/Sub Install question

Nice forums guys, very informative.

I have a question on an amp/sub install on a monsoon system in my 2001 T/A. I'm trying to install 3 10' subs (same box) with an 800W amp. the amp has power, and it's being triggered correctly. but I cannot get any audio. I am using a loc, and I've tried hooking it to the rear speakers after the amp, before the amp, and at the right rear sub after the amp, but I cannot get anything. I think it may be because the loc i'm using says 3-60 watts on it, but I'm not sure wether that's the issue or not. I may just wait and get a different HU and hook it up dirrectly to the HU and just do the re-wire (or harness).

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Before the amp is the best place to connect a LOC so that you're not converting an amplified signal. However, since you've already tried that the problem is likely somewhere else. Have you connected a remote turn-on lead to your amp? It may be getting power but not turning on. The pink power antenna wire is a convenient place to tap for remote turn-on.

Yes, there's a power LED built into the Pioneer amp. and I am using the pink wire for the antenna for a remote. I'm going to try connecting the subs after the monsoon amp without the Pioneer and see if the Pioneer amp is my problem. It might be getting power, but it might not be putting anything out.

Any other suggestions?

Okay, the amp is not the problem, I've tried 3 amps, all of which i know are good, and it didn't work. which leads me to believe something is fisshy. i know the subs are wired correctly. I talked to a "car audio technician" the other day and he said try tapping off the signal after the monsoon amp. i thought that sounded a little weird. have yet to try it though. should i just run the wires directly to the back of the HU?

I'm sure glad you put "car audio technician" in quotes because he obviously doesn't know about these systems. The Monsoon system uses an amp that takes speaker-level input from the head unit and amplifies it for the speakers. The input you get at the Monsoon amp is exactly the same as the speaker output from the head unit - it's the same wires. The amp's output is the same except amplified which could cause distortion or even damage to the LOC. That's why you should use the input side of the amp (output from the head unit).

So, the problem isn't where you're getting your signal. We can also assume it's not the amp because you've tried others. That leaves a faulty LOC or incorrect/faulty wiring as the two possible causes of the problem. You can check the LOC by getting an RCA-to-mini adapter cable from Radio Shack for a few dollars and using it to plug a pair of headphones into the RCA output of the LOC. That should tell you if the problem is with the LOC and its wiring or with the amp and its wiring - in other words, are you getting a signal to the amp.
