Default Radio shorting out question....

My radio randomly "shorts" out while i am driving around. It will just turn off until i hit a bump that knocks it back on or until i hit it.

The way i get it to turn back on is to hit the side of the console surrounding the radio. I will randomly hit it until it turns back on. I assume i am hitting something back into place or moving a shorted wire off of something.

Anyone have any idea what might be shorted out and where i can find the problem area? I was also thinking that something wasn't grounded right.

I put a new aftermarket head unit into it today and it still acts up like this. So it has to be a wire somewhere.

A clue into the right direction would be amazing!

more than likely a loose BCM connection and/or faulty BCM......at least I'm assuming BCM based on where you hit that fixes it........the year of your car would confirm this. When the radio shuts off, try moving your power windows next time.

Check all power/ground wires to/from the BCM.

Yeah....my windows don't work when the radio shuts off. My camaro is a 2000 z28.
I will check the wires tomorrow.....what should i be looking for when i look at the wires?

Also is the BCM is faulty....where would i buy one and how much are they?
And how would i make sure it is just the BCM so that i would not have to spend excess money....

I followed the diagnostic procedure in the service manual to make sure I didn't have a short somewhere else, before spending the money on a new BCM. It was a tad over $200 from my local Pontiac dealer. You can get one cheaper online, but I wanted it quick.

That same exact thing happens to my 2000 ss. The radio will just completely shut off and the power windows will not move either. I found out that when this happens, i just press the unlock button on my door and everything works again. Im gonna have to check that BCM i guess. thanks
