? about door speaker install
I am replacing the Monsoon door speakers, I have an aftermarket deck, stock speaker wiring. There are 2 positives (RED) & 2 negatives (Red w/ black stripe). What do I need to hook up? Is there an easy way to do this? I neer mess with stereo stuff!
I have a choice of using Polk Audio DB651 or Alpine SPS-170A...
THANKS!!!!!!!
Alternatively, use just the pair of woofer wires to power the new speakers.
Some have chosen to modify their new coaxials and treat them as components -- might sound slightly louder than using aftermarket deck power -- but IMO not worth it to cut apart a new speaker when you may amp them with an aftermarket amp down the road, etc.
1.) One pair for the tweeters, driven by the head unit
2.) One pair for the woofers, driven by the monsoon amp
The wires are different enough length, that if you compare them to your stock monsoon speaker, you should be able to trace which went to what speaker (tweeter or woofer).
You goal is to hook those same wires up to the woofer and tweeter of the replacement speaker you choose.
If you DO NOT intend to use an aftermarket amplifier for your full range speakers (only amp for subs), then this is worth doing, and you should do it. There are several threads with pictures showing exactly how to mod the Alpines. It is not a one-way thing - you could return them to original condition easily, so long as you can solder.
This is the point where you should make some decisions about what it is your final system arrangement will look like. Many audio shops won't know how to do this and will tell you it isn't possible, that you need to buy another amp, wiring, etc.
