Now as far as fiberglass verus mdf or plexiglass. I think that's controversial. It depends on many factors. I've heard some sound very nice and some, well, they need some serious help. I think it's a matter of putting together the right combo of box type, style, and what speakers are going in.
You just need to make sure the MDF is braced properly and you won't be able to hear a difference. MDF resonates much lower than fiberglass and needs to be braced or extra thick so it doesn't resonate in the sub bass frequencies.
Fiberglass is an *** ton lighter though
Or I guess you could always use birch, which is light and strong as well.
