Lower seat sections as molds for sub boxes
I've contacted a couple places that make fiberglass enclosures to see if they can use my rear seats as molds to replicate the seat in fiberglass as a subwoofer enclosure. I will want to re-apply the OEM leather over it which will need to be re-sewn slightly. Adding a skinny layer of foam to the box should give it a more realistic look.
If you know of any shops that are highly experienced with fiberglass molds please let me know.
I have a vert and already a nice custom box in the divider area that replicates the OEM plastic divider (trunk to seating area divider). With the top down the bass just goes away. In addition to that the rear seat side panel speakers have no way to be enclosed. You are limited to a 2.3" deep speaker and it exposed in the back to the vert top hinges. So doing anything here is a waste of time even with a free air/infinite baffle speaker.
Someone with a high attention to detail, time, and fiberglass mold experience can do this I am sure.
Raise the area where you *** sits when making the mold for the clearance of the sub.
This would allow a 10" sub and depth of 6.5 "or so to fit in each seat. THat is more then enough for me.
It would provide about .6 cubic feet, enough for a sealed enclosure.
The leather would need to be restiched in the middle where the "***" area is raised.
Look somthing like this. This is a rear seat photo from ebay.
