Default Door remote question

Door Remote ?

I have a weird question. I've got a 96 Formula and a 2001 Silverado. They both have door remotes.

Are these two systems compatible with each other where I could use just one remote????

If not.... and if it is due to the Formula having the older type door remote.... is there away to update the Formula's door remote and/or system???

I hate carrying two remotes

you can go to a shop that specializes in remote openers and have them make u a key pad that both can be put onto one.

Why not just try it? Pick one of the remotes and program it to the other car. You see, you're not actually programming the remote - you're programming the car to match the signal from the remote. If the remotes are compatible there's no reason you couldn't program more than one vehicle to recognize the same remote.

Bear in mind that it won't be like aftermarket multi-remote setups. If both vehicles are in the driveway and you press the unlock button, both vehicles will unlock their doors. Then you'd have to manually relock the one you weren't planning to drive because pressing the lock button would lock both.

If programming to match the same remote doesn't work you haven't lost anything - just reprogram to the original remote for that vehicle and you're back where you started.

I just presumed they weren't compatiable with each other.... but as you point out... I have nothing to lose.... The worst that will happen is that it won't work. (If my bird was newer... say a 98 forward... I think it defanitly would work.) I'll try it and post back with results. (I hope it works.)

Interestingly...the 96 uses the same remote as later models. The remote is the same part number from 96 through 02. 95 and older used a different remote.
