Blinkers shorting out?

Blinkers shorting out? When I turn on my left turn signals, my rear right lamp shuts off and the same with the right signals the rear left light goes off and stays off. I was told it could me a module in my steering column that controls a bunch of stuff like that.
That sound right? They spendy? Gm parts?

No, there is no such module in our cars - that's something that GM started using in more recent vehicles (03 and newer). Our cars have the same basic flasher/switch/light circuit that has been in use for generations.
The symptoms you describe sound very much like a bad ground at the tail lights. The turn signal power is backfeeding through the parking light circuit because it can't get to ground. That puts power on both sides of the tail light bulbs (rather than power and ground) so the bulbs turn off.
