I have always like Alpines since the amber lighting matches the Pontiac red at night. I have used the CDA-D857 and CDA-9835 and they always looked perfect. The newer Alpines use the Blue lighting and I will use the color periodcally.
which model is that Blacker? the D857 or the 9835? looks much better than my blue...

I was looking at it today at the store. It looked nice, but the controls felt kind of flimsy compared to others, maybe it was just because it was a demo though.

I looked hard at the JVC stuff again. Just not sure.

This headunit is a CDA-9835 and found it brand new on eBay earlier this year.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of a rotary volume on that Clarion. I like the look though. That is a nice unit!! My JVC doesn't have rotary volume either and I miss it sometimes. My next unit will have rotary volume again and will be either another Clarion which I have owned before and really liked or an Eclipse.

I don't have a trans am but my grand prix has the red interior. I have a Alpine CDA9833. The amber color matches perfectly to the stock red interior. I also have the headunit mount with red.

Day shot of my Alpine CDA9833 in my grand prix.

Check out some website for pioneers 2006 models....there is a model with red lighting i use to have in my camaro it match the colors of my friends t/a cluster...some sites still sell them. Also if you want to spend some extra money the brand new pioneer flip out models you can change the light colors and it can be switched to red

I'd much rather have alpine...and you can change the button colors too....alpine for me is by far the clearest sounding for the price

Has anyone had experience with this deck?

Alpine iDA-X001

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=iDA-X001

You can change the buttons to red, and alter the display to match as well.

It is a media player only though, no CD, but looked like slick unit.

With todays technology...CD's are going to be a thing of the past anyway. Music has gotten to be electronically transferred via USB, SD Cards, iPods, MP3 players, hell...even by phone...lol. If you use alot of CD's then the iDA-X001 is not going to work for you but if most of your music library is on your computer get a 4gig usb memory stick and have at it. It is a very nice unit for the iPod crowd as well! I kinda like the idea personally. No digging through discs...although I did put most of my library on 2 DVD's I keep in the car as my JVC reads DVD. So I have a total of about 9 gigs of music on 2 discs broken up into folders for easier navigation.

I almost bought that, but decided the pioneer 6900 was a better choice for a cheaper price. The pioneer controls the ipod and hard drives (formatted in FAT 32) via USB and the big wheel mimics the ipod's scroll wheel identically. 4v pre-outs as opposed to the alpine which has 2v. It's really fast. You can't scroll as fast as an actual ipod, it goes about the same speed as turning up the volume on the wheel (I guess it might be quick if you can turn the dial fast ). I'm really happy with it, only thing is it's blue . I have it in my truck though, so that doesn't matter to me. I like having the option to play CDs with this unit - although I haven't used one yet. If you want the cd changer for the alpine it's another $300.

I've had Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, Eclipse, Clarion, and Alpine (all top models)

I honestly loved my Kenwood, but that was also a touchscreen DVD player had more bells and whistles on it than you could imagine. Only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a manual flip (hit the button and it ejected the screen and then you had to flip it up) and the constant worry of someone breaking into my car and stealing it (although I never take my faceplate off my cd players anyways).

Pioneer has been a great success story in that it looks cool and has some nifty features to screw around with since it has an ungodly amount of presets to it. No subs in the car though

Never liked my Clarion or JVC...don't know why just didn't think they lived up to the hype they had and the Clarion had way too much stuff to try to do on a small LED display

Alpine and Eclipse were some badass decks, but your going to pay for it in the end...my eclipse was close to $800 just for the deck alone and my Alpine was nearly $600. The only thing more expensive I've owned was the In-Dash at $1500....given that I also got these things at cost, thats a lot of dough if your getting it at consumer rates.
