Could this be the problem?

Could this be the problem? I have an amp powering my speakers and an amp powering my sub. When i turn the music up to a decently loud volume, the speaker amp shuts itself off but the sub amp doesn't, so the subwoofer continues to play but there's no music. I have 4 gauge running to a dist. block and then, from the block, i have 4g running to the sub amp and 10g running to the speaker amp. So my question is, could the speaker amp be shutting off because it only has a 10g power and ground, while the sub amp has a 4g power and ground?

i originally thought that the problem was that the alternator wasn't recharging the battery fast enough but the battery gauge never shows less than 13, even while the speaker amp shuts off

i have mb quart compontents up front and diamond d661i components in the sail panels. the amp is a diamond d3 400.4. the gain is turned to about 3/4 on the fronts and rears
I assume these are all 4 ohm components ? it almost sounds like the amp is driving a load it can't handle. I'd try lowering the gain and see if that helps. Does the amp have any sort of protection or overload indicator on it ?
