Default Stock Monsoon and burned CD's

Anyone use burned cds in the stock monsoon headunit? Currently im using Windows Media player to burn the cds on TDK 700MB cd-r, and they do not work. What burner+cd combos does anyone have that works?

Monsoon was made in the 90's. Not as many burned cd's around then. Use the money you saved on burned cd's to get a aftermarket stereo. Get one that plays mp3's and you'll only have a couple cd's in the car.

Using Windows Media Player for anything is the first mistake. Microsoft's obsession with DRM (digital rights management) makes anything done with that program problematic.

I have used TDK, Fuji, Maxell, and Verbatim CD-Rs in the stock head unit without difficulty. Memorex doesn't seem to work as well for some reason.

A few tips:
1. use CD-R only, CD-RW will not work
2. burn as an audio disc, MP3 and other data formats will not work
3. burn between 8x and 12x even if your recorder supports higher speeds.
4. test the burned disc in a regular CD player (not a computer recorder)

Try Nero, Easy Media Creator, or Instant CD/DVD for good commercial CD burning packages (Instant CD/DVD is only $10). Or get one of the freeware packages from a download site such as snapfiles.com. I've used DeepBurner before and CDBurnerXP gets good reviews.

Burned CD's work fine on my Monsoon. Make sure you are burning them as audio CD's. My recollection is that this is not possible with Media Player. (I use Yahoo! Music Jukebox, which works like a charm.

I use Nero and it works well for burning all types of media...DVD, MP3, wave, etc.

and remember, burned cd's are more prone to scratches/skips because the protective layers are much thinner than the industrial stuff they burn. Also getting a reputed named cd helps too. Memorex Sony etc. GQ always skipped after 3 days.

Digging this back up, I have cd-r discs but I believe my mistake was I burned them as something other than audio disc but I’m not sure what the speed is. Looking at cds on Amazon I’m not seeing on the cds in the 8-12x range as cd-r only rw. Are these cds hard to find now days ?

The CD-Rs that you'll find will be rated much faster than 8-12x. When you go to burn the audio disc the software you use should provide you with speed options for burning (might have to dig around some advanced options/menus to find it depending on the program you're using) and you can select a slower speed as suggested above (even though the disc will be capable of burning at a faster speed). One of the reputable brands noted above should be fine. Don't forget to burn as an "audio" cd as others have mentioned.
Good luck.
