Default Best 4 Channel Amps..

Please list some of the best 4 channel amps for $300 or less you guys know about.. I will be running CDT HD M6 mid bass drivers (150 RMS) and CDT CL-61CV (100 RMS) components.. no sub.. Right now I am looking at Phoenix Gold Octane R 4 Channel 800 WATT Amp, any good?? I heard they like to draw more power than usual from the battery, what would I need to counter this??

Here's a couple of good ampsunder $300

There's the Hifonics ZXi 6406;85x4@4ohms for $299 and the Alpine MRP-F550;90x4@4ohms for $230.

Just do a Google search, there's alot out there.

and the nine.4 is under-rated, since they measure power at 12.5v...

Capacitor. I usually suggest a 1 farad for a relatively minor set-up like that, but if you have a couple really good subs, you should get a 1.5 or 2 farad.

Ignore this advice.

Don't upgrade anything for now. If you have problems, start with the charging system wires (some have great results simply using larger/higher quality wires) or go straight for a new higher output alternator. You should be fine without anything for now though.

I have been very impressed so far with my alpine pdx-4.150. Its 4x150rms(it should actually push more as I have heard they are underrated) and I think I paid $395 shipped for it.

Capacitors in my experience do nothing but add weight, and subtract money.

If you had subs I would say that an upgraded battery and alternator would be wise. But since you aren't going that route you should be fine with stock battery and alternator. I had 2 phoenix gold amps in my daily driver and have nothing but good things to say about my experience with them. Just be sure to use the appropriate size wire and fuses and you will be fine.

Couldn't agree less.

Odd, my amp is currently setup to put out an even 1,000 watts RMS @ 12.5v, and more than that above 12.5. Anything above 1200rpm, My stock 120k alternator has no issues keep the charging system above 14v, and that's while playing tones. normal music is even easier, about 1000rpm.

Before considering caps, high output alternators, etc.. Try cleaning/upgrading basic cables. Alt/Batt/Grounds, etc.. After all the corrosion has been removed, wires upgraded, etc.. then consider a bigger alternator. Aren't the OEM alternators 140amp? According to my RPO codes, mine is. That is plenty for that kind of setup.

Rule of thumb for caps is 1 Farad per 1k watts. I personally have them in my other cars, just for looks.

I could go into the mathematics of it but I don't want to bore everyone...capacitors do nothing except possibly disguise the symptoms of a marginal charging system. I suppose adding them for looks isn't a bad idea as long as that's the only reason - they won't hurt anything, they just won't help anything either.

I wouldn't consider the OEM charging system to be marginal, but on the quick snap of a bass drum (not a bass line like in a rap song), it keeps the voltage from sagging quite as badly, just extending out the current draw over a longer duration.

Certainly not the be-all-end-all and won't fix a problem, but there is a little more to it than just looks..
