The security light in the instrument cluster indicates problems with VATS and is completely unrelated to the alarm system (which you couldn't "rip out" anyway because it's part of the BCM).

If you've already tried your other key then chances are the problem is with the ignition cylinder contacts. Try cleaning them first. Use some spray contact cleaner in the ignition cylinder and work it in by sliding your ignition key in and out. Give it a few minutes to dry and then try starting the car.

the vats reads the resistor of your key from two wires where you put the key in the cylinder . after time from cranking the car these two wires get loose and this is where the problem is .
mine went out over time ad got to the point where it would not crank after several tries . to correvt this you will need to find out the correct resistance as gm uses 13 different resistors . all you got to do is undo under the dash , find a orange tube . the tube has the two wires that go to the ignition cyliner . soler in the resistors and it will let you be able to bypass your security .
do a search as i did a write up with some pics a while back .
