Default Factory VATS/Security delete?

Hey Guys,
I have this bad problem that keeps happening over and over with my factory vats. My car will randomly not start because of a short in the system and also my security light stays on even while I'm driving sometimes. So, my question is, how can I completely delete the factory anti-theft? I've already had that stupid short fixed but it's rearing it's ugly head again and I don't want to pay to have it fixed again. Thanks for the help guys

A search on VATS bypass should find you plenty of write-ups including photos. Basically, you want to measure the resistance of the pellet in the ignition key so you can get a resistor (or combination of resistors) that match that value as closely as possible. Then you find the white with black and purple with white wires in an orange sheath near the base of the steering column. Disconnect the wires and connect them together with your resistor(s). That will make the BCM think the correct key is always in the ignition.

You should try cleaning before doing any modifications. The system often has problems with the grime that builds up on the key and in the ignition cylinder. Some rubbing alcohol and a pencil eraser will clean the key. Spray contact cleaner from Radio Shack is good for cleaning inside the ignition cylinder.

Both wires in the orange tube for vats should jst be white. But I agree 100% that with whitebird that you should try cleaning the key cylinder first.

I believe that hptuners will allow you to turn off vats as well as an alternative option
