Pink wire behind the radio.
Does that pink wire run down the right side of the car underneath the side plastics that kinda under the door jamb?

I really dont want to pull the radio out to get to it because usually when it goes back together there will be squeaks or something. Just my luck.

As far as the placement for the switch I just looked at my ashtray. My 96 bird has a little piece of plastic i drilled through that was just underneath it when you take it out. However my T/A doesnt have this. Did you just drill through the bottom of the ashtray to install the switch?

If I remember correctly, yes.

I've never had an issue with removing and reinstalling the radio.

I removed the ashtray and replaced it with a plastic sheet cut to fit. The lid is still there and closed over it so you don't see the switch.

there is a spot just to the left of the ash tray in the ls1
you need a micro spst switch from raido shack
i have a dpdt one that controls the cooling fans
mounted there and the Single Pole Single Throw you need is smaller
that and 10 ft of wire and you are good to go

Yea that would work...I ended up just drilling a hole in the ashtray and that works great.

This is still on topic but I have a similar question that has to do with the annoying antenna going up when the CD player is on. Also my electronic knowledge is lacking so if this is an easy no-fix answer then so be it.

Question: We all know the antenna goes up whenever the radio/CD player is turned on regardless of which function. Idealy, the antenna would go up only if the radio function was being utilized. Would there be a way to somehow wire the antenna to the "radio" button on the deck itself. So that everytime you pushed the "AM/FM" button on the deck, the antenna would be deployed. And either it could be retracted back down by the depressing of the "CD" button or just repressing the "AM/FM" button.

Sorry for the long post but this is just a little quirk that bothers me. My wife's Hyundai has a power antenna and her car is smart enough to know when to deploy the antenna only when the radio is used and brings it back down when you play a CD.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

If you are good with soldering and latching relays, I guess you could do it.

That would be a neat idea but seems like it would require a lot of work for a very little result.

I ended up pullin the radio and cutting the pink wire and running a toggle switch to my ashtray(to hide it). It was very simple and I can leave it down all the time or when im listening to cds. I have a thread that is two or three posts up where there are pics of the switch.

Hope this helps...its very easy to do.

I've done it too. It is easy.

Just cut the pink wire.
Extend both ends to a switch.
Mount switch.
Done.

I think that's what I'm going to end up doing but was just wondering if anyone had done what I tried to explain.

Thanks for the help!
