What do you mean "hard to blow"...? Speakers shouldn't just blow if powered properly -- anything will blow if not powered properly.

Everyone has gotten so used to blowing the stock speakers though so it makes them think all speakers are like that...lol!
What's your budget and I can PM you with some specific suggestions that will fit your price range and still work well.

No, not really. I don't care how bad a 100W amp clips - it won't blow my Fi Q12. And clipping a bit doesn't blow speakers at all. Bob Lee from QSC has made several posts about it on AVSForum if you feel like looking for them.

I have 2 sets of Alpine Type-R 6.5 coaxials speakers all around with two Type -R 12 inch subs in the back. Love them. All speakers are running with Alpine Amps.

Never said clipping a bit will blow them - I know that....my HT sub is living proof. That falls into the real of "powered properly" IMO.

a set of infinity perfects or Kapas would sound extremly well and are made of a polypropalene outer ring so they are very resistant to blowing, just remeber underpowered can cause as much dmage as over powered

Actually, I think Infinitys use butyl rubber surrounds, not polypropylene(plastic). That's what a lot of companies use for cone material, though.

That's not completely accurate. If underpowering speakers (i.e. reducing the number of watts sent from the amp) damaged speakers then you'd never be able to turn down the volume.

What people often misunderstand is that underpowering is not what kills speakers - distortion kills speakers (particularly clipping). The underpowering comment comes from running any speaker on an amp that has been cranked up to the point where it's clipping. You can run speakers on an underpowered amp all day as long as you keep the volume within the levels the amp can handle without distortion. In other words, it's the distortion from pushing an amp too far (rather than the amp being underpowered) that causes damage.

Clipping doesn't mean ZOMG SPEAKER DEAD NOW though. I'd call clipping only a little more likely to blow speakers than a comparable clean power signal.

I think we can generally agree that clipping is bad, though. Not only is it more likely, even if only slighty so, to blow speakers, but the cleaner, non clipping amp will sound better anyway. SO, clipping = bad, regardless of the severity. Avoid clipping.

Well, of course. I just wanted to quell the myth that clipping automatically means a blown speaker. whitebird already stopped the "underpowering" myth. Just FYI, if clipping kills a speaker, it's actually called overpowering, not underpowering. By increasing the amount of time the signal is at its maximum, you are increasing the short-time average power. Take any amplifier that is operating into clipping, and remove the voltage restriction so that it is no longer clipping. You've just increased the power even more and it's even worse for the speaker.

I agree. My wife put in 6.5 fosgates in (before they started sucking years ago). after she burned them up with the stock monsoon radio, I put in a blaupunkt cd player and cheap discus series 6.5 in the back. (dce216 I believe.)

I would give the fosgate setup a 3.5 on a 10 scale.
With the Mb Quarts (now in all 4 corners, still no amp....) I have had other audio guys ask me when I installed a sub. I would rate my system a 6, only missing REALLY low bass at high volumes.

MBQ speakers are all german engineered and assembled by hand. the only other speaker I have thought of using recently is Focal. Also a hand made speaker, but for the price I was underwhelmed with low freq response.

Just my two cents.

MBQ tends to have pretty low sensitivity, though.
