Default my big 3

When I bought the car the previous owner left 4 gauge wire in for a stereo. I still believe it has the stock alternater though. Rather than replacing the big 3 (batt to alternator, engine ground, batt ground) I was thinking to just replace all the engine's major power wiring with the 4 gauge wire.

Stock Wiring:
batt neg to chassis (fender well)
batt neg to engine block (pass side by starter)
batt pos to starter
batt pos to alternator
batt pos to fuse box
engine to chassis ground (dr side of block to dr frame rail)

Upgraded Thought:
4 gauge batt neg to chassis (upgraded grounding bolt on fender well)
4 gauge engine to chassis ground (pass engine block to pass framerail)
8 gauge batt pos to starter
4 gauge batt pos to alternator
8 gauge batt pos to fuse box

Do you guys think that would work?

bigger wire is bigger wire and as long as everything is connected and proteted against the elements as well as you can then it cant hurt anything

8 gauge to the fuse box is too low. Should be at least 6, but why not do it with 4, too?

isn't it 8gauge from the batt to the fuse box from the factory? i'm not sure but it just looks like it.

I'd have to check, but 6 gauge is the usual factory wire.
