Default n00b stereo wiring question

I did a few searches, but didn't come up with quite what I'm looking for. I know very little about stereo wiring. I had an install shop put in an amp, new speakers, head unit, etc. several years ago. The positive cable for the amp runs through the grommet in the firewall, to a fuse box, then to the positive terminal connector on the battery. The shop connected it to the terminal by cutting some of the insulation away, cutting part of a ring terminal off (to make it a "C"), then slipping that around the positive post, sandwiching it between the insulation.

Well, this weekend, I replaced the positive battery cable because it was really corroded. After getting everything back together, I'm not sure I want to cut the boot on the new cable and re-wire it the same way.

When re-running the new positive cable for the battery, one of the connections goes across the fans to the fuse box, where it has a ring terminal that is held down by a 15mm nut. Instead of cutting the boot and running the stereo fuse positive to that, can I get/make a longer cable and run it to the ring terminal on the fuse box?

Cliff's Notes: Can I wire the amp positive cable to the positive connection the battery has on the fuse box under the hood?

Sorry for being so long-winded. Just trying to describe this as best I can.

you can do that, but keep in mind, theres a small (10 gauge/) wire going from the battery to that terminal. you will be very limited in the power you get because of that cable.

you are better off getting a longer terminal post for the battery which is available at any car audio shop or knukonceptz dot com for cheap. this will allow you to leave the ring terminal on your new wire a full loop and itll stay better. I hate when shops jerry rig stuff.

Problem solved. Got a longer battery terminal at my local electronics megastore and got everything wired up. Car even started on the first try!

Thanks for the help.
