gps antenna placement?
gps antenna placement? i'm installing my pioneer d3 and was wondering where those of you with NAV are placing your GPS antenna. It says in the manual that windshields and some other glass may block the signal has anyone had a problem placing this on their dash?
also it says not to cut up the magnet into small pieces, it's much larger than the antenna. would it be bad to cut it to size?

That pad isn't a magnet, it's just metallic - the magnet is in the antenna. There's no problem with reception because of glass. If there was, none of the portable GPS units would work inside the car. The antenna just needs to be mounted on any metal surface with a clear view of the sky.
I put mine on the metal panel at the corner of the dash under the dash pad near the windshield and I get great reception. There's one of those panels on each side of the dash so I put my Sirius antenna on one side and the GPS antenna on the other. It's completely hidden, you don't need the metallic pad, and it's really easy to route the cable to the back of the HU.

I also have a AVIC-D3. The antenna has a magnetic back and it sitting on a horizontal metal section under the front-left of the upper dash pad.

I mounted the GPS antenna in the raised midde of the oval panel.
