Wire with power only when car is running
Wire with power only when car is running Is there a wire I can tap into that only has power when running. It will be turning on a relay so should not be drawing very much power.

under the driver side dash, after you remove the panel below the steering wheel, there is a big pink wire. It's 12v only when the key is on. I use it to power my hardwired V1 radar detector.

Does it need to be ignition controlled or live only when the engine is actually running? Ignition controlled is easy (shoemike's suggestion of the IGN port in the fuse box is the best option) but that is live when the key is on regardless of whether the engine is running.

That pink wire is the primary ignition wire from the ignition switch. Many people tap into it for accessories but it's not the smart thing to do. You should use the IGN port in the fuse panel as shoemike suggested - it was put there by GM for installing aftermarket accessories.
