Default voltage problem.... plz help

I noticed that my volt gauge wouldnt go above the 1/4 mark. i was thinging a resistor? I have a system.

kenwood kvt 512
cdt comps and e's in the sails

what could be the problem im thinking a bad alt, but not sure.

opinions plz

Does it do the same if the system is off? Do you have a capacitor? Why the hell do you think it was a resistor?

My buddy said something about a resistor.... no i dont have a capcitor... no I turn the ac/and system of and it still does it...

If it's doing this with all your accessories on or off, no difference. I would suspect the alternator before anything.

it is the alternator... would it help running a aftermarket amp with a capacitor? As far as not killing the alt. again

If it's a fairly large system then yes. How many watts are you pushing? I would check the voltage at the altenator before you replace. My car was doing the same thing and I just threw a new altenator in. $150 down the drain. The old altenator was still good

well the car is completely dead. it doesnt have enough juice to crank over. I dont have a big system at all just 2 6.5 subs in the sails and some components in the doors witrh a hu. I was just going to run it off the monsoon amp. I didnt think it would have that great of an effect on the cars voltage.
