HeadUnit with DVD, who has one? Im looking at replaceing the stock HU in my 02 firehawk and want to get one with built in DVD player. I know a few companies make them, anyone here have one and what are your comments on it?

Re: HeadUnit with DVD, who has one? I have the alpine 1va d900, it is truly a great radio as far as all of the features & the research that went into it. There are two drawbacks that I've found. The brain unit has a bad overheating problem. Alpine built a fan into the unit that comes on at high temps, but alot of care needs to be taken as far as placement. The second problem is the mp3 decoder. Someone at alpine really dropped the ball on the mp3 portion. The frequency response is not high enough and any high frequencies sound like squeaking metal. So if you're big on mp3 playback don't get it, but if you're still on cd's, it's a great piece.

Talk about overheating, you dont have any problems with your amps overheating behind the back seat? That looks like a great hideing spot but man, Id for sure think you would have heating issues there.

Re: HeadUnit with DVD, who has one? i have the alpine cva-1006 along with their 12 disc cd changer (AI-net) and PS2 hooked up, my brain also tends to get a lil hot, i just have it sitting on the floor behind my passanger seat, the one richieq suggested is a much more expensive model then mine, you can usually find mine on ebay for a real good deal, the cd changer i have plays burned cds but wont play mp3 cds, however Alpine makes a 6disc cd changer which can play mp3's, i'm thinking of selling my 12 disc and getting that one, they also have a 6disc DVD changer now, but it's fairly expensive, if you want DVD playback in your car along with mp3 cds, i suggest getting a less expenive multimedia head unit than the IVA-D900, like the CVA-1003 (crutchfield.com is running a good deal on them) or a CVA-1004, CVA-1005, CVA-1006, or even the IVA-C801, and then get the 6disc MP3 cd changer and just throw in a PS2, that way you can watch dvds as well as play video games

(all under $1,000) Re: HeadUnit with DVD, who has one? those pics are decieving. The amps aren't behind the back seat, They are the back seat. I built a new backseat/amprack with a functional fan cooling system. By paying alot of attention to wiring, voltage & gain settings, My amps have only gotten warm to the touch but absoloutley no overheating problems. So much so I pulled the fuse on the fans. Also I tried the alpine mp3 changer for a little bit, hopefully they have come up with a better version by now. The one I had took a full 4 seconds to change songs and the fastfoward command was so slow there was no point in using it. Ask ur local dealer if alpine has a newer version. It's very possible that alpine has updated it but using the same model number.
