The C2 that would be king

Life for this C2 began back in 1964 when the coupe was built as one of just 5,724 coated in Riverside Red, a fuel injected 327, radio delete, deep gears with Posi. Fast forward a number of decades and Steve Locklin, the present owner, found it one day while searching on eBay of all places. He contacted the seller, Tim Ames at J&M Enterprises, and inquired about the condition of the car and deeper questions of how the Corvette has spent its time. Steve is a hot rodder and already owner a C5 Vette so being a man of sound mind bought a C2 off of the internet sight unseen.

Hot rod all day

Steve's aim for the car was to be a project that he could show off as well as have some fun in. So with that being said, Steve had a C7 Z06 based rolling chassis put into the car and the front and rear suspension was raised an inch to fit a specially ordered mandrel bent 4x2 inch frame rails. There is also a Detroit Speed rack and pinion steering and a Flaming River tilt column. The front suspension and brakes are C7 while the rear is C7 with a Hammer Head billet IRS differential with positraction. The Forgeline wheels on the car are staggered with 18 in the front and 19s in the rear wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.

This car is so cool

Street Shop took the chassis for a Chevy Performance LT1 and matched it to a Lakewood bellhousing with an Atomic dual friction clutch, billet flywheel, and an American Powertrain TREMEC 5-speed transmission. There is a C&R Racing radiator with GC electric cooling fans to keep things at a proper temperature. The fiberglass shrouded side pipe exhaust was fabricated by Mike Goldman and includes Ultimate LT1 headers into 3-inch stainless steel pipes.

LT1 power

The body was altered to accept the wider wheels using J&M's complete rear floor section and 1 1/2 inch widened flared quarter panels. The hood was then customized in order to extend out to reach the cowl. The hood was then topped off by Talbert Goldman putting a 2016 Camaro hood scoop into the stinger. The headlights doors were converted from vacuum to electric by way of a Detroit Speed kit. A Detroit Speed windshield wiper system was also installed.

It's so pretty

Goldman Customs' Don Brackin painted the C2 with Arctic White in Axalta Cromax and then a layer of Victory Red for the stinger. The door handles were created by Clayton Machine with latches mirror polished by Dan's Polishing Shop. Dual red LED taillights replaced that of a single red taillight and clear backup lights.

Blood red interior

On the inside, there are custom made steel bucket seat frames with seats filled with ultra comfy aircraft foam and covered in Australian free-range red leather. The rest of the interior is covered in that same Austrian tanned red leather with Veteran's True Black German square weave carpet on the floors. Sound deadening and temperature control comes via Boom Mat being layered in the car.

How could he be disappointed?

There is an ice cold air conditioning unit as well as Specialty power windows but still no radio on board for music. The Corvette was finally unveiled to Steve at the Goodguys Columbus show with a surprise spoiler on the rear that Talbert Goldman had installed as a bit of "hot sauce." Steve remarked that the Corvette exceeded all expectations and since its debut has made an appearance at SEMA in C&R Racing's booth and has autocrossed at Texas Speedway.
