5 Facts about the World's Fastest Car - Hennessey Venom GT

1. Weight

The Hennessey Venom GT is a modified version of the Lotus, and part of the modification was to make it a much lighter vehicle. This car weighs as little as 2,743 pounds, which makes its power to weight ratio one-of-a-kind. A big part of the Venom's record-breaking performance comes from its extreme lightweight.

2. Engine

The 2016 Hennessey Venom GT develops 1,451 bhp at 7,200 rpm. This engine got a huge boost from the previous generation, climbing up 207 bhp. The Venom GT is equipped with E85 Flexfuel 7.0-liter twin turbo V-8 motor, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, and from 0 to 100 mph in 4.4 seconds.

3. Safety

With such a fast car, you'd think it would be packed with safety features, but the Hennessey Venom GT comes with no airbags or traction control. However, it is not all that bad when it comes to safety, the cabin is still protected by a suede-covered roll cage, not to mention the 15" carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.

4. Record

The Venom GT is in the Guinness World Record for the fastest production car. In 2013, the Venom GT set the world record for 0 to 200 mph accelerating at 14.51 seconds. On April of 2013, The Hennessey Venom GT went as fast as 265.7 mph on a two-mile course, which it then broke in 2014, going as fast as 270.49 mph on the Kennedy Space shuttle landing strip in Florida.

5. Different Venoms

The Venom GT Spyder in an open-top variant of the Venom GT. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was one of the first to order this model in 2013. The 2014 Venom GT is considered the World's Fastest Venom; it was for sale at $1.2 million, and only three of them were sold. The Venom GT Final Edition was nine pounds lighter than the Spyder, and only one was made. Finally, the Venom F5 Hennessey has been in the works, and it is set to produce 1400 bhp, and sell for $1.2 million.
