Slideshow: LS-powered Volvo is a Supercar Slayer

Pushing the envelope is something we all love to do with some taking things to greater lengths than others. Take this Volvo, for example. It used to be a normal family car until someone did this to it...

Dug stickler

The man who built this car bears a name that reminds you of an old hot rodder who sits quietly in the corner during cars and coffee. He listens to everyone talks about how great the latest McLaren is while he quietly walks over to his pride and joy, fires up the twin turbo LS that then proceeds to blow the doors off of everyone with an assortment of groceries in the back seat. Just how fast is this burgundy ballistic missile? You won’t believe it…

How much horsepower?

At 5.7-liters the LS1 that powers this car is already a stout bit of kit that doesn’t need any more torque in the mid-range. Wait a minute, what the heck am I talking about? Of course, you need more torque in the mid-range. Throw two turbos on it and bulk up the injectors. Let’s make some power and crush some souls! 544 horsepower at the rear wheels at 567 lb-ft of torque is way more than enough to push this car towards breakneck speeds.

Speaking of top speed

Are you sitting down? The top speed on this Volvette is in excess of 190mph as evidenced by a YouTube video where the Volvette walks away from an R1 at wide open throttle. Yes, this thing smokes an R1 which is capable of smoking almost any supercar in a straight line. It all comes down to one super key ingredient that supercars wish they had…

Curb Weight in all the Right Places

At 2,700 lbs these cars were light for a wagon back in the 80s when they were released to soccer moms around the world. Fortunately for the owner of this build that makes for a power to weight ratio of around 402hp per tonne. This thing hauls the mail and it’s not even using racing slicks! Shifting gears comes in the form of a manual 6-speed while the tremendously popular Bilstein shocks keep the wheels planted to handle all that torque.

Favorite build

Everything that’s cool about hot rodding and LS motors can be found in this car: custom fabrication, absurd speed, twin-turbos and the ability to share it with 4 friends who ride with you all make for a truly unique experience behind the wheel. The only thing better would be 1,000bhp which is exactly what the owner has been rumored to be doing for a few years now. When this build surfaces again it might be capable of taking down the latest hypercars. Anything that can do that with an LS power plant gets a big thumbs up! Thanks for reading!
