cq5dam.web_.1280.1280-21Both were game changers in their respective areas. Jim Hall and Hap Sharp founded Chaparral Cars in 1962 and shook the racing world at its core. Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital created Gran Turismo and rocked the simulator world by bringing nearly realistic racing to homes everywhere thanks to the Sony Playstation.

Now, Kaz, Chevrolet, and Chaparral are teaming up to introduce a concept car in the Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) series with the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X VGT. Hope your Playstation is ready for this.

cq5dam.web_640“Jim Hall and Chaparral blended the art of racing with science in an unprecedented way, changing the sport forever and inspiring a new generation to experiment with aerodynamics and unconventional materials,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain.

“His race cars were four-wheeled physics projects that proved innovation – and a strong Chevy race engine – could drive you to the winner’s circle.”

The GM Advanced Design Studio used input from Jim Hall himself to design the Chaparral 2X VGT concept for the game and a real life version. While it probably won’t turn a real racing lap, it will sure to join the ranks of the Chaparral 2, 2D, 2E, 2F 2H, 2J, and 2K in the legendary what-ifs.
