Swapping a big American V8 into a tiny Mazda Miata isn’t anything new, but when the all aluminum LS motors hit the scene it changed the game. Big power without the weight was finally obtainable and although the early V8-swapped Miatas were cool because they were raw and ruckus, that didn’t go very far in many people’s books. But fast forward a decade or so and look what we have here, the LS3 swapped Flyin’ Miata. Talk about the velvet hammer!

The 2660-pound roadster is pulled along by an LS3 that’s backed by a T56 transmission and a CTS-V LSD. We stumbled onto this Road & Track review and the journo mentioned that the car was not only impressively civil with a slick shifting box, a firm clutch and working AC, but that it was an absolute beast. In fact, he complained that traction issues hampered the 0-60 sprints so the best times were achieved by starting in second gear…it still nailed it in 3.8 seconds! Yes, 0-60 in 3.8 starting in second! Can you imagine what it would be like with traction?

Dare we call it the modern AC Cobra?
