5.3 Into FJ40 Land Cruiser

Sweet. My dad has a 76 Fj40 with a bastardized SBC 350 (with some 305 heads), and some crappy ram horn manifolds, and a Carter 650 or 750 four barrel, god only knows what cam. Personally, i think it runs like ****. It used to have a 327 with a decent cam and was a lot better. I'm trying to get him on board to go with a 5.3L. His setup uses the stock yota transfer case and transmission via a Bell housing adapter from [I don't know who]. I'd love to see what it would take. I used to drive the thing to high school, and it always got looks,...and yours looks way better, Nice looking paint job!
For the FJ specific parts (swap mounts, adapters etc), where should I be looking?

If your bellhousing is a GM to Toy adapter type it will work with this, if it is the plate sandwiched between the GM bell housing to Toy trans it is junk....lose it and go another route.
This conversion uses GM to the transfer case, then it adapts back to Toyota.

Drivers side is Hedman, the Hedman would not work on the passenger side. it dumped too close to the front driveshaft.....a buddy of mine had a pair of unknown make or origin, I was able to use it on the passenger side....one has a 3'' outlet and the other has a 2 1/2''........oh well

We made these, so I don't know about any off the shelf mounts, although some for a CJ series Jeep should work.

I know this is a really old thread, but I am about to finally start on my 1976 FJ40 Landcruiser 5.3 swap. I'm just starting to look up the necessary parts and price it all out now....
