What GM production muscle cars came with a 327?
So I was arguing with my manager at work today because he is convinced that his 2002 avalanche has a 327 because GM had a bunch left over from camaros and ta's. I was trying to tell him that no 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th gen cars came with a 327. I was not sure about 1st gen camaros and early vettes. Could someone help me out with this? This guy is a dick and seems to talk about stuff that he doesn't know about. He told me I need to do some research and I told him that he's the one that needed to do some reading. I told him I was for sure except for early camaros and vettes.

I can only assume the debate is over a modern 5.3L engine. If so, these never came in any modern Camaro or Trans Am either. The final generation of F-bodies offered only 5.7L V8s (350ci LT1s and 346ci LS1s).
If your manager actually believes that he has a "327ci/5.3L left-over from Camaros and TAs", then perhaps he should consider some basic internet research to correct his ignorance.

@RPM, I said I was sure except for first gen camaros and vettes. Yes, he is referring to his 5.3L in his avalanche as a 327, it's actually a 325cid. I was just posting to confirm my argument and to educate myself a little on some early model cars. Thanks for the info.

As for the original 327ci (Gen 1), it was introduced in 1962 and offered as an option in many Chevy models through 1968 (including Camaros and Corvettes within that era). I believe '68 was the last offical year for this displacement, though some '69 models may have still used it.

I love guys like D's hawk manager. He obviously has taken little bites of fact:
327 CID equals 5.3 litres in metric.
Modern Chevy truck engines are a similar design to LS1.
and pieced together his own story that sounds cool if he's telling it to a pedestrian.
You could correct him with the facts, but personally, I would let him keep on going. I find it highly asuming to hear bullshit being presented as fact. He might even raise the bar: " it's a 327 Fuelie".

Well isnt that a lot like the 5.7L being a '350'? Try looking up any parts for a 4th camaro / firebird with a 5.7L 346... You wont find many, if any. Do you really care if someone puts a 350ci sticker on their 4th gen?
True, anywhere you look for Avalanche parts they say 5.3L 325... but who cares.
You guys are seriously arguing over a couple CI's? I understand when people are being a Dick you want to correct them... but personally Ive got better things to do. lol.
If people dont care to research, its their own fault they look / sound like idiots.

No, the original dispute seems to be over the fact that someone mistakenly believes 4th gen F-bodies came with a 325/327/5.3L (and was the source for "left-over" 5.3Ls used in '02 trucks), which obviously never happened.

the early years had the 327/ 300 hp ss in 1962-1964 maibu ss 220hp/283-1966 chevy 2/327- 350hp/1967 camaro dz302/290hp/1968 camaro 396/375hp baldwin motion offered a special edition with 427 L88/1968 impalas/427/425hp also available in other models.the1970 chevelle introduced the 454/450hp.
After the aforementioned regulations changed the horsepower wars.......
Early gm heads with the double camel hump were the trend due to larger valves and flow.we also had the introduction of the quadrajet carburetor
along with improved exhaust and solid lift cams. Little did we know of todays
high tech efi and aluminum blocks etc. Please feel free to add or update this information.have a blessed day.............

Additionally, you have excluded the original series of Chevy big blocks (348ci, 409ci, and the 1st gen 427ci).

In addition to the 327s found in many of the 60s cars, this engine was used in A LOT of trucks from this same time period (probably doesn't help the 327 thing with the new 5.3L trucks). We have a little '67 C50 grain truck with the original 327...makes suprisingly good torque. Not what you would typically think of as an application for an engine that suprised many a big block during it's time, but used quite frequently nonetheless.
