5.3 cam choice
I just got a 5.3 LM7 out of an 04 Silverado and Im looking for a cam. Im building a carbed motor that is going into a S10. The truck is a street truck but I like a choppy idle but something that is still driveable. These are the cams I found so far so let me know what you think will be the best and if I will have to do any mods for it (springs ect.)
- 212 intake 218 exhaust @ .50, 551 551 Lift on 114 LSA
- 03 LS6 Vet Cam
- Intake- 196 degrees of duration at .050" with .467" of Max Valve Lift.
Exhaust- 201 degrees of duration at .050" with .479" of Max Valve Lift
Any other suggestions on a cam choice?

any cam you choose is going to need new springs and pushrods.
a tr220 seems to be a popular cam on the truck boards. But depending on weight you could go a little bigger.
is the vehicle an auto? torque converter is another thing to consider. i wouldnt run any cam with a stock converter.

Yeah the truck has a 700r4 with a 2800 stall converter. Its right around 3000 lbs.
Now when you say I need to replace the push rods, do you mean with a more heavy duty rod or a different length depending on lift and rocker ratio? I'm staying with the stock 1.7 rockers if that helps.

You'll need hardened pushrods. Length to be measured once cam installed, could be different length depending on cam's base circle.
This is what I recommend:
224/230 .581/.590 111+2 LSA
