Default 83 Volvo 242, LQ4 Th400 8.8 Megasquirt

Thought I would share my build now that's is up and running. Original plans were to go turbo right off the bat but funds just wouldn't allow it. Its a stock 6.0 using megasquirt for fuel and spark, subaru injectors, ford coils, civic alternator, vette exhaust manifolds, and a car intake and rail that I added a return port on. Basically whatever I could get my hands on for free....Trans is a used tci 400 with a summit 3500 converter and rear is a explorer 8.8 that I narrowed. It's pretty fun as is but forced induction is definitely next on the list.

so did you use two short axles to narrow it 3" or so? what did you do to the front as far as lug pattern? did you redrill the front hubs to make them 5 by 4.5" to match the rear 8.8?
looks good i really like those cars.

Yep two short axles. Front hubs are redrilled and I used dodge chrarger brakes in the front. Wheels are charger 17" steelies.

Very Nice. Did you have to run any spacers to get the Charger wheels to fit? I've got a 77 244 with the same 8.8 swap (narrowed 3" and two short axles) and a LT1, T56 combo.

I have almost exactly the same honda civic alternator set up. Works great for my setup. I take it your running ms2. Any reason you didnt go with ms3 so you could have run the factory GM coil packs sequenally rather than the ford coils wasted spark? Or was ms3 not out when you built the car?

Default More detail on the build

I saw this car a few weeks ago and the fab work is top notch. Can't wait to get a ride someday. Check out this thread for the build - http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=222596
Hopefully next year I can start my own swap on my 4 door (egg shell white purchased from the original owner) version of this project with an L33 - 5 speed.

Thanks guys! This was my first V8 build, I have done a bunch of 4 banger turbo stuff but I wanted to change it up. I bought the motor and trans and was looking for a 2nd gen rx7. Then this car came up for 4 bills delivered so I couldn't pass it up especially since I sold the volvo motor for 300. It's a little on the heavy side but hopefully it will end up around 3200 pounds.

The megasquirt was recycled from my last project. The motor I bought was missing all the coils and accessories hence the reason for the ford coils and honda alternator. I honestly dont know what I took the ps pump off of, it was some 90's GM front drive pile. For now the megasquirt 2 will be fine even with forced induction but someday I will go ms3x mostly for the outputs and onboard logging. I'm really not experienced enough yet to take advantage of full sequential injection nor does it really matter for what I'm doing with the car.

As for the bicycle tires, they will get replaced with some sort of sticky 275 when I can afford it.

Default Those are actually pretty big tires for 240 Volvo

These cars a bit on the tire limited side. The ones here are 215/50/17's - I think. 225's are about as wide as you can go without extensive sheet metal mods or just dealing with tires rubbing all the time. The rear wheel wells are f'ed up as far a wide tires go.

It has 235's on it now, they are just some take off's from by buddy that works at a tire shop. I have had some other wheels with 255's on them that fit without rubbing. My plan is to widen the rear 17" steelies for street tires and get some cheap 15's for drag radials.

Does anybody know what a a stock LQ4 runs for peak timing? I have found stock timing tables but they are all MAF based. Don't really want to spend they money for dyno time when its still in stock form. I'm at 27 degrees now.
