How do you remove a LS1 water pump pulley?
Im winding down on my LS1 swap into my nova and have ran into yet another problem, the truck water pump inlet is going to hit the intake tube. I have a pump off of a Camaro and someone recommended swapping the truck pulley to it and use the camaro pump because the inlet is on the front.
My question is how to get the water pump pulley off?? I tried the Harbor Freight 3 jaw puller, but it shattered while attempting to take it off. I tried to apply heat to it as I was taking it off too.
Any suggestions??
Thanks

What front Accessories do you have ?.. you stated LS1.?... do you have an Truck block and front accessories and now putting an LS1 intake on it ?.. what do you have LQ4/9, LM4/7, etc ? or do you really have an LS1 ?
I would try another pump. I think there was some other threads on the 10' F-Body pump fitting around car TB. Or some other of the newer engines.

You just need a 3 jaw puller to get the truck pulley off. To remove the f body pulley you also need to cut the pulley up to the shaft. Or you could set up a jig to press it off. I've done 3 swaps and never got the f body pully off without destroying it.
Btw heating it can destroy the seals.
To press a new one on, you need to remove the rear cover and support the rear shaft with a small socket. Otherwise you'll just press the shaft through.

If you need to swap out a truck for an LS1 intake for hood clearance, the L92 water pump will clear an 07+ DBW TB. It will not clear a earlier DBW TBs.
You could use an f body with spacers but that would mess up aftermaket AC bracket mounting (Kwik). Same issue with 2010 camaro L99 WP.
Swapping pulleys also allows you to keep a mechanical fan.
Truck spacing, f body pump with truck pulley, Kwik bracket.
Another with a mechanical fan.

Allright, thanks for the help, a few different options I have here to go with.
BTW, im running a '03 I believe LQ9. Im running the stock truck accessories (Just ALT) and have converted the TB to DBC.

In your case an 07+ L92 water pump will clear the DBC. It has the outlet angled at about 45 degrees off the top of the pump.
It would not clear the DBW TB with traction control.
Here's a pic of a 5.3 with the L92 water pump. This is also how I discovered it wouldn't clear the pre-07 DBW TB.

Ok, thanks for the input. Just incase anyone reads this thread for research, I was able to do the pulley swap from the truck pump to the F body pump. As many have said, the F body pump is a PITA to get off or is not meant to come off. I took a 2 jaw puller and put a lot of pressure on it, then took an oxy/acetylene torch to heat it and it only moved a quarter inch. I figured since I heated the pump up, the seals were shot, so I proceeded to just cut the pulley off to see if there was any reason it wouldn't come off, but I guess it is just pressed on that tight or corrosion seized them together. After cutting the pulley off, I realized the housing was still good from the F body pump so I decided to take the guts out of the Truck pump and put em in the F body housing. The trick to swapping these pulleys is to use a press. I pressed the truck pump out through the back of the housing and pressed it into the F body pump housing. The press made it easy. Hope this helps.

i took my fbody pump to a guy here locally. He drilled two holes in the f body pulley and was able to use a puller to safely pull it off. then he used a press to fit the truck pulley on

Just a thought, look at impeller to housing clearance. Too much clearance can cause cavitation and aeration of the coolant resulting in overheating and air pockets in the cooling system. This is a common problem in Pontiac and Chrysler engines. If you have a stock untouched pump look at the impeller to back plate clearance and adjust accordingly.
