1972 Nova Turbo Lsx Build
Figured Id post in this sub forum as well
Starting a new chapter in the life of the nova, car started out 2 years ago as a 250 inline 6 cylinder 2 speed powerglide bench seat car. I quickly changed that for a mild 350 sbc/th350. Started reading alot of about the lsx platform and was quickly sold on the potential. Got rid of the gen 1 sbc and have been buying parts for the last 3-4months. Have 90% of parts now so the build begins!
Car is going to be built over the winter and hopefully be ready for a tune come spring. Initially this was just a motor swap but it quickly turned into transmission, driveline and chassis upgrades. Would like to have the car ready for some track days this year and the lsx shootout in indy.

Sounds like a great build! That H3 pan is going to hang lower than you will like. It will be interesting to see if that Mp 76 meets your goals. You will need around 700rwhp to get it into the nines. I would also recommend a tube frame radiator support to make life easier. Keep up updated.

I may switch to a 3" core, but we will see how/if it fits. I feel pretty confident that my chassis setup is about as good as it gets and think that my choice in turbo will be plenty for a sub 10 sec capable pass

some work I finished up in the past week was cleaning the 40 year old dirt from under the car, the pans are pretty solid, I do have about a 3" square section of rot in both front pans I plan on patching but here is a before and after pic, lots of wire wheel action went on, just trying to get the underside clean and prevent any further rust.
Next will be getting the front subframe off and cleaned/painted and install all the goodies so I can get the car to the chassis shop to get tied and caged

Wife did well for Christmas and got me a pair of 275/60/15 MT DR and a Moser Rear end Girdle
And then a Big Thanks for VS Racing, I initially bought a mpt70 q trim 1.0ar for the nova and once I bought the abruzzi th400 and decided to do all the chassis work and have the rear end built I figured more boost was in order. VS racing gladly returned my mpt70 that was brand new in box after about 3-4 months and upgraded me for the additional cost to the mpt76 q trim wheel

Nice ,I have ran novas for years, just dont have one that I would do that too again, most of them are long gone!,nice choice on the intercooler I have ran 20 psi with 93 octain in my goat no issues, even before the alky injection..
I am building a lsx 427,for my 1970 monte,it should be a beast.love the old muscle cars, but the new cars whip em all day on comfort and braking /handling,unless you upgrade most if not all the car..

From my experience, an ebay core heatsoaks a hell of a lot faster than a quality core such as a precision, garrett, etc.
When tuning and making back to back pulls on the dyno, i noticed little/no changes in IAT's with a precision FMIC, but with an ebay core they went through the roof.

yeah this really started out as a budget build once I get things together and tuned, I will start weeding things out (if anything) that does not work for my combination.
Most tuners I talk to think with e85 the 8.6 will be fine and should build boost fairly quick in the low 3k so I am more than happy with that
